I just attended a talker by the CEO of Malaysian Airlines, Mr Idris Jala at our esteemed institution today.

Woah..Am I impressed or what?

Mr Jala has worked with Shell prior to joining MAS. And during his time in Shell, he managed to turnaround the business from years of slump (we're talking some 10 and some 20 years of continuous loss - depending on which country he was seconded to) into making huge profitable sums.

Then, he was invited by our Pak Lah to help bring a major turnaround to our already controversial MAS. He joined MAS in Dec 2005 and within the first quarter, he managed to cut the loss by half (compared to the previous quarter) and by the next quarter, he further reduced the damage. By the third quarter, MAS finally started making profits. And has been doing so ever since.

Because of this, MAS has been awarded by CAPA as they shown the highest magnitude of turnaround, within such a short period.

Now, I'm impressed with this man because he has such a pleasant and unpretencious persona about him. If i had to sum him up in 2 words, those 2 words would be: brilliant and humility.

I am so inspired now. Hmm..i wonder if MAS is hiring. I really could learn from someone like him.
